Behind the Scenes with the Patriots Jet Team
The Patriots Jet Team is the only civilian-owned jet team in the U.S., renowned for their precision flying, close-formation maneuvers, and exhilarating airshow performances. This team is composed of some of the most skilled pilots in the industry, many of whom have served in elite military aviation units. Their dedication to the craft and passion for aviation set them apart, and capturing their story was both a privilege and a challenge.
Filming with the Patriots wasn’t just about capturing jets in the sky; it was about immersing myself in their world. From the intensity of pre-flight briefings to the thrill of formation flying at breakneck speeds, I aimed to bring their story to life, showing not only their impressive skills but also the camaraderie and trust that makes them a team.
The Thrill of Formation Flying
One of the highlights of this project was experiencing close-formation flying with the Patriots Jet Team. At times, we flew with only three feet of separation between jets, a margin so tight that any slight deviation could have serious consequences. This level of precision requires unwavering focus, trust, and an incredible level of skill. The Patriots execute these maneuvers with such mastery that it’s easy to forget just how challenging they are—but trust me, the adrenaline was off the charts!
Another awe-inspiring moment was experiencing the Patriots’ iconic opposing pass maneuver. With a 600 mph closure rate, the jets race toward each other, crossing paths in a split second before pulling away. It’s a sight that makes spectators’ jaws drop, and being up close as they executed this maneuver was beyond words.
